RAMAKRISHNA MATH, COIMBATORE
This centre, which was functioning as the town centre of Coimbatore Mission branch, was made a full-fledged Math centre in 2005.
Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, founded by Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam Ayya, has been rendering its service in the Educational and Cultural fields since 1928. In the year 1993 to cater to the needs of Coimbatore town devotees, Vidyalaya authorities decided to start a Centre in the Town. After a long search, the present land was purchased. A prayer hall was built and dedicated on 05.08.1994 (Birth day of Swami Ramakrishnanandaji Maharaj) by Revered Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj, the then Vice-President, of the Ramakrishna Math & Mission. In the year 1997, to meet the educational requirements of the local poor children, a free tuition centre was started by a group of devotees. This town Centre was made a full-fledged branch of Ramakrishna Math in the year 2005 to intensify the activities and fulfill the requirements of the locals.
Ramakrishna Math, Coimbatore, (a branch of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, Dt. Howrah, West Bengal,) was inaugurated on Sri Vinayaka Chathurti, September 5, 2005, by Revered Swami Gitanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math & Mission.
Since then, it has been a long journey. During these few years, it was required to give more attention towards the infrastructure development, beside conducting regular activities such as Daily worship in the Temple, observance of all the religious festivals and Birthdays of Holy Trinity and disciples, etc., conducting spiritual retreats in and out side of the Math, National Youth Day celebration and Book-Stall. All these years more emphasis has also been given for the betterment of the education of the Tuition Centre children by providing all the necessary Educational Aids, Uniforms and Scholarship. As Swamiji puts it, there is no use of religion to empty stomach. So also, these children required nourishing food first, and then education. To complete this urgent need of the children nourishing food is provided daily. In pursuance of giving these children a complete education, on every Sunday, sustained moral & ethical classes conducted which included-Vedic Chanting, Bhajans, Classes on life and teachings of great personalities, and seva programme.
